Setting Up Your Organization: jump to another article

Creating sites

A site is a physical plant or location — the top of KeepSpec’s structure. Lines and machines both live inside a site. From Sites, click Add site to create one.

Name, code, and time zone

Name is the only required field. A Site code (for example DET-01) is optional but must be unique across your organization — KeepSpec checks as you type and tells you which site is already using it if there’s a conflict. Time zone matters: it’s used to judge business hours correctly regardless of where you’re sitting when you set it up.

Address

Street, city, state/region, postal code, and country. For a US address, state and ZIP are validated — KeepSpec checks the ZIP format and offers a dropdown of US states rather than free text.

Business hours

When the plant is staffed, in the site’s own time zone — used today to flag off-hours alerts, and planned to drive escalation timing. Turn on Runs 24/7 (continuous / 3-shift) for a plant that never closes, or set open/close times and pick the days it operates. KeepSpec won’t let you save hours with no days selected — a site with hours set but nothing checked would silently never register as open at all, so this is blocked rather than saved quietly broken.

Contacts

People to reach about this site, in the order they’d be notified once alerting is configured — the first one is labeled Primary. Each contact has a name, role, email, and phone, all optional individually. Reorder them with Move up / Move down, or jump someone straight to the top with Make primary.

Archiving a site

Archiving a site doesn’t touch its lines, machines, or check history — they’re unaffected and still there if you un-archive it later. By default, archived sites are hidden from the list; check Show archived to see them.
